"I have put my entire trust into the people who run this centre, a very difficult thing for any addict. I am doing everything they are suggesting; but whenever I need help it's there. For me it was hard to believe the programme would work, but it really did."

"I had to really think about this first in order for me to give Western Counselling the recognition they deserve, because my head still spins like a washing machine and if you were to able to open the door while it's spinning everything would come out in a mess, so I really have to take time and say how I feel inside about Western Counselling.

When I asked for help last year in getting back into treatment, I was told the only place my funders would send me to, was here at Western Counselling because they ran a strict programme, which is what I knew I needed, however I still had this thing in my head that no one can tell me what to do, but thought to myself what the hell give it a go.

On arriving here my peers told me of the rules and what to expect in my treatment, and let me tell you it wasn't long before I realised I wasn't in just another treatment centre. No, I had found a new family, and that’s how I was treated, everyone here went out of their way to help me. The Counsellors didn't treat you like clients, I felt they treated all of us as their own children and because of this care and compassion they had for us I started to listen, and one of the main things that helped me was when I was asked to have the willingness and to do what is suggested, well hand on heart I haven’t looked back since.

I can actually feel emotional today especially towards Western Counselling and what they have given back to me and many others. During my stay here I have dealt with some very painful issues that I had locked away for some 28 years and because of the trust I had gained with my counsellors and peers I was able to deal with these issues in a safe environment for the first time in my life. I'm now nearly 5months into my treatment and thanks to Western Counselling's way of treatment I have grown in many ways.

I have dealt with rejection which goes all the way back to when I was I was given away at just 3 months old and never really felt part of my adopted family, I also had resentments on all of my family and relationships and as far as anger, I was told I was angry person but I wasn't having none of it, well least not 'till I read the book on Anger and had to identify with it, as an assignment, but now I deal with it constructively and this is all down to the great work that the counsellors do here.

My personal counsellor, who was Trudy, helped me overcome all of these issues on our 1:1 meetings. I know I have my mum back in my life after 33 years and I can tell her I love her and mean it, I also have my children back who I deserted over the years of my drinking. I have just had a call from my eldest daughter who I haven’t spoke to since being in treatment I also spoke to my grandson and today I'm not ashamed or embarrassed to tell you I cried and it feels good and that’s thanks to this programme and all of the counsellors who I look upon as my guardian angels.

So from the bottom of my heart I thank you, and not forgetting the rest of the family – the cooks, the support workers, the nurse, the management who keep this beautiful place going, again I thank you for helping me find peace in myself."
