Getting treatment from Western Counselling

How do you get funding?

Those individuals who are able to fund the treatment programme from private sources can contact us direct.

However it always a good idea to follow the procedure below as it will ensure you are known to your local team and you will be able to access support and help from them in the future, if necessary.

If you have issues relating to food, gambling and/or codependency you are unlikely to get statutory assistance with funding help unless you have primary/secondary issues with drugs and/or alcohol.

  1. Contact your local Alcohol or Drug Team yourself, do not get a family member to assist as this will not be seen favourably by them
  2. Advise them of your situation and request an appointment.
  3. Attend that appointment at all costs
  4. Request treatment and if you already know which service you wish to attend, name it, ask if they will refer you
  5. Request a Community Care Assessment
  6. Undertake whatever regime the service deems appropriate
  7. Ensure you attend every appointment, on time, if you are unable to attend, give them warning
  8. This process can take anything from 8 weeks to 1 year, be patient.

Families

We believe that addictive behaviours whether it be for drug and/or alcohol, gambling, eating and food problems or relationship issues should involve the family, and we encourage patients families  and relatives to become involved in client recovery.  They often learn that they too have been affected by the illness and benefit from the a greater understanding of the problems surrounding addictive behaviours.

In addition we also introduce them to Alanon, Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, Overeaters Anonymous.

Aftercare

Is available to all individuals who have completed a programme of care with Western Counselling and remain abstinent, totally free of charge and for as long as necessary or required.

Usually clients will attend initially weekly, however with time this may decrease to fortnightly, monthly and then yearly – sometimes on their sobriety birthday.

Aftercare occurs every Saturday at 9am until 12 noon and consists of group therapy and a one to one counselling session.

If accommodation is required, where possible we will try to accommodate individuals in our properties, however this is dependent on bed spaces. This is also at no charge.
